Tyler the Great Warrior concept art by Tyler Gressle and Kazuki Takahashi in their custom picture frames

A custom picture framing business was selected to work on the project of a lifetime — framing the original concept art of Tyler the Great Warrior, the one-of-a-kind Yu-Gi-Oh! card going up for auction next week. Three pencil illustrations — one by Tyler Gressle depicting his idea of the monster, and two by Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi depicting the monster in different poses — were given the royal treatment by a framing shop in south Florida.

The 33-year-old picture framer, who goes by FlacidBarnacle on Reddit, was very familiar with Yu-Gi-Oh! and described how thrilling it was to be chosen for the job.

“Tylers dad just came into my custom frame shop (super awesome guy) and Has given me the great honor and responsibility of framing the sketches done by Tyler and the late great Kazuki Takahashi,” FlacidBarnacle wrote in the Yu-Gi-Oh! subreddit on April 4.

“I’m losing my mind lol,” FlacidBarnacle continued, understanding the significance of the project. “I just came up with a awesome idea for the design too it’s gonna be really unique.”

After a week of hard work, FlacidBarnacle followed up with a showcase of the final products, but has since deleted that post.

FlacidBarnacle described in depth the creative process behind the presentation.

As promised. I wanted to do something special like sketch the art into the outer mat (like the throwing stars) so that it looks like the art is popping out of the frame, but since it’s being auctioned we figured it would be best to do it by the book.

The frame is large but simple which expresses how important these pieces are without overwhelming the art or being cheesy. The size will tame any wall and There will be no question as to the validity of where they hang. The frame, sharp as the hair on the characters head, is a 1/4 inch larger than the outer mat – leading you in like steps into a room. The black will pop off any wall and attract anyone’s attention. The inner mat is 1/4 inch etched silver which provides contrast that separates the whites and pulls you in to the details of the piece. Where as the steps lead you The depth invites you in. It also adds to the importance of what’s inside. As if it’s Locked up and tucked away from prying eyes πŸ‘€

Elegant, simple, classy, powerful.

Was an absolute honor to be a part of this and I hope the buyer of Tyler the great Warrior will be happy with them.

What do you think of these illustrations and their custom framing job?

The auction for Tyler the Great Warrior will kick off on April 19, 2023, on eBay.
