Magical dragons saving KaibaCorp airplane in YGOTAS episode 77

Kaiba versus Alister is here! Using the power of the Orichalcos, Alister transports Kaiba into the plot of a young adult novel to help him have an epiphany about the evils of humanity. But in the end, the heavy-handed hallucination only reinforces Kaiba’s confidence in his cards. Looks like Alister will just have to convince Kaiba the old-fashioned way: by beating him in a card game! Meanwhile, Joey and Tristan encounter Cornelius’ basketball-playing offspring. See what happens in LittleKuriboh’s Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged episode 77, “Loopy In The Sky With Duel Disks,” available now on YouTube and TFS.

For all of the talk of plot holes, Kaiba, Mokuba, and Alister fail to realize something spooky: if the plane is empty, who’s making announcements over the aircraft’s PA system? I guess it’s just the power of the Orichalcos at work again.

Also, shut up, Nokuba.

Convention Update: Anime St. Louis 2018

LittleKuriboh already has at least one convention booked for 2018! Anime St. Louis has announced that LK and Marianne Miller will be guests at the event next year, which will take place on May 4 through 6 in St. Charles, Missouri.

Valon kicking Rebecca while wearing armor in YGOTAS episode 76

There’s been so much actual dueling in the recent episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged! The latest episode continues this trend with a pretty action-packed and serious battle as Valon takes on the duo of Dungeon Dice Monsters creator Duke and number-one fan Rebecca. Meanwhile, Joey and Tristan go on a quest for imaginary pizza while carrying Rex’s dead body. See all this and more in YGOTAS episode 76, “Becky With The Good Deck,” available now on YouTube and TeamFourStar.com! In case this video gets removed from YouTube, LittleKuriboh notes that he has it (and all of the other episodes) backed up on Vid.me. The TFS site now uses Vid.me for all of its embedded YGOTAS videos.

Episode 77 of YGOTAS is already underway and it is “comin’ together pretty darn well, imho,” says LK, who’s halfway through the writing process. “I hate to say it, but I get a weird thrill from writing this YGOTAS 77 script because it means eliminating one of the Orichalcos villains,” he adds.

More Convention Appearances: Kentokyocon, Anime Weekend Atlanta

This year is turning out to be busier than the last for LittleKuriboh on the convention side of things, with two more events added to his line-up. First, LK will be in Lexington, Kentucky, this weekend as a guest Kentokyocon.

And second, LK will head to Anime Weekend Atlanta, taking place from September 28 through October 1. The Atlanta, Georgia, event is the first convention that LK ever attended as a fan after starting YGOTAS, says LK. (That was way back in 2009!) And now, he’ll be there as an invited guest. Wow!

Yami Yugi facing off against Orichalcos Soldier in YGOTAS episode 75

Previously on Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, a licensed spiritual therapist takes Yami Yugi to a mysterious valley to help him move beyond his pain. I really hope everything works out for him. Spoilers: it doesn’t. But Link summoning is not to blame for any of this! And neither are any of the judges. Sheesh! Grab a bowl of ice cream and tune into YGOTAS episode 75, “Valley of the Duels,” available now on TeamFourStar.com. This episode isn’t yet on YouTube because of a copyright strike, said LittleKuriboh.

LK previewed the first minute and a half of this episode during last month’s Patreon live stream, where he noted that he had trouble deciding on a funny name for the episode. Ultimately, he just decided on a title that describes what’s been happening. The title is a reference to Valley of the Dolls, he said.

“I wanted to call it ‘Beyond the Valley of the Duels’ but I thought that was pushing it too much,” he added. “But that’s the title I’m more familiar with ’cause I’m more into films than I am into books.”

And what about the line that LK’s really proud of? He finally tells all: it’s “How do you like them pomegranates?

Anime Con Update: Anime Expo 2017

LittleKuriboh confirmed on Twitter that he will once again be attending Anime Expo. Look for him selling his merch in the exhibit hall on July 1 through 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Update (June 20): YGOTAS episode 75 is now available on YouTube.

Yami Yugi cradling Yugi in his arms in YGOTAS episode 74

Previously on Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, Yami Yugi, Téa, and Weevil’s soulless body go flying off a cliff. But they’re okay now! Actually, they’re better than okay because they’ve woken up and are now in Téa’s fanfic. The pharaoh must visit a mysterious valley of lost spirits just outside San Francisco to make amends with Yugi. But more importantly — do they make out?! Find out in LittleKuriboh’s YGOTAS episode 74, “Right In The Feels,” out today on YouTube and TFS. Hello, Danny Phantom and Shaman King!

LK premiered this episode at MTAC (Middle Tennessee Anime Convention) this past weekend. This episode was edited by Stephan Krosecz, who also plays the sad rendition of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Theme at the end of the episode. Tracey “Lady Nanaki” Herbert guest stars as Kriss.

Convention Update: AkaiCon

LittleKuriboh will be making his first-ever appearance at AkaiCon later this year! Now in its fifth year, AkaiCon is an anime and fandom convention in Nashville, Tennessee, and will be held from August 4 to 6.

Little Kuriboh's Counseling Evil, part 2: One successful activation of Destiny Board later...

LittleKuriboh has uploaded part 2 of his “Counseling Evil” series! In this episode, Byakuya Bakura spends his first day in Dartz’s organization of evil, only to discover that things aren’t quite what he expected them to be. Maybe a change in leadership will help. Certainly those Orichalcos clowns would benefit with Bakura at the helm, right?

During this month’s Patreon stream, LK previewed the first three minutes of the video, which, oddly enough, included some censored audio despite the final cut being fully uncensored. He also revealed what Abridged Ryo thinks about all of the Thiefshipping that’s taking place.

“That’s something I’ve intentionally kind of glossed over a little bit because it’s, uh, I hate to say it but it’s a touchy subject,” LK laughed. “I like to think he’s a willing participant. That’s my feelings about the whole thing, but it’s a strange scenario. It’s unconventional.”

Yami Yugi grabbing Weevil Underwood in YGOTAS episode 73

“A new episode of YGOTAS comes out today?” asked LittleKuriboh. “You don’t HANA-SAY!” Ho ho, Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! memes? In my Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series? He picked the best one to highlight, of course. Check it out in YGOTAS episode 73, “Throw Haga From The Train,” available now on YouTube and TFS.

Something is a little…different about Rex and Weevil in this episode. It seems the power of the Orichalcos does more than just take souls; it also changes people’s voices and personalities. During his January Patreon live stream, LittleKuriboh offered some insight into why he decided to approach Rex and Weevil the way he did in this episode.

“It’s basically their final big moment in the series and I wanted to give them like a really interesting send-off and do something special with them, and I think that I did,” he explained. “It’s not especially funny but I think I did a better job paying an homage to those characters than I have done for a long time. I don’t think I’ve ever really done those characters justice and I tried to do something special with them for their final duel essentially. […] I wanted them to have like a little moment in this episode where they actually seemed genuinely like actual characters.”

Marik & Bakura Go To Censored Town Visual Novel

Speaking of LittleKuriboh’s Patreon, for Valentine’s Day, LK gifted all of his patrons a kinetic visual novel of his adult Thiefshipping fanfic, Marik & Bakura Go To Censored Town. The idea for this voiced and animated project came directly from his fans and patrons, whom he hired to illustrate the novel. Check out LK’s promo of the novel and, if you like what you see, consider supporting his Patreon to get this and other neat exclusives.

Censored Town is a story that LK originally wrote in 2011 for charity.

Four More Convention Appearances

LittleKuriboh has added another four anime convention guest appearances to his 2017 line-up.

First up is MTAC — Middle Tennessee Anime Convention — held in Nashville, Tennessee, from April 14 to 16. LK has been guesting at this con each year since 2014.

Next is Anime North in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from May 26 to 28. This event is a particularly special one for LK’s wife and fellow voice actor guest Marianne Miller because this will be her first ever trip to the Great White North.

Then, the pair head to Anime Blues Con in Memphis, Tennessee, from July 7 to 9.

Last but not least, LK will return to Leicester, England, for Alcon from August 31 to September 3.

[YGO: TAS] Episode 72 – Rex & Weevil Do Atlantica

Yami Yugi and his friends definitely aren't celebrating in YGOTAS episode 72

Just in time for Christmas, LittleKuriboh has released Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged episode 72 — “Rex & Weevil Do Atlantica” (on YouTube, TFS)! Let’s celebrate with a party! Oh…the party’s canceled I see. It seems that Yami Yugi is no longer the King of Games. Now he’s just an average, super-talented, devastatingly handsome loser with magical powers. If only he hadn’t gone out in the middle of the night to duel Rafael. Now, the gang will need to travel to Florida to fix this mess. Somehow, Kingdom Hearts fanfics and Disney World are involved.

Meanwhile, Rex and Weevil end up joining Dartz’s Oral Costco cult thanks to a misunderstanding. And Kaiba tries building an elevator into space. When he finds out that Yugi lost a children’s card game…well, you’ll just have to see the meltdown for yourself. Wait, why would anyone ever need an elevator into space…?

Convention Update: Kami-Con

LittleKuriboh didn’t attend too many anime conventions this past year; he no longer needs to thanks to his Patreon supporters and now has more time to create new content. Will 2017 be much of the same?

Kami-Con in Birmingham, Alabama, has announced that LittleKuriboh will be guesting at its event, which takes place from January 27 to 29, 2017. LK will share the stage with other guests like Steven Universe’s Zach Callison and Deedee Magno, Vic Mignogna, and Doug Walker. This will be LK’s seventh appearance at Kami-Con. Who knows how many (or how few) anime cons he’ll attend in 2017, so if you’re in the area, don’t miss out!

[YGO: TAS] Episode 71 – The Break-Up

Yami Yugi promising Yugi he won't play The Seal of Orichalcos in YGOTAS episode 71
“Don’t worry, Yugi. There’s absolutely no reason to even use it.”

Ah, so LittleKuriboh has finally reached this episode — the one where Yami Yugi plays The Seal of Orichalcos. The one where he loses for real. Check out YGOTAS episode 71, “The Break-Up,” now on YouTube and TFS. But watch out, it’s a heartrending one. That Kuriboh metaphor? Hnnnggghh…

This humor in this episode is really old-school. While there are several visual gags present, the core of the story pokes fun at how preposterous some of the elements of the original episode are — Rafael’s justification for his hatred of humanity, his belief that the pharaoh could have been evil, and Yami’s decision to activate the Seal of Orichalcos.

Interestingly, LittleKuriboh leaves out an important element of Rafael’s story that is present in 4Kids’ English version, one that actually does help explain the character’s motivations — namely, that Rafael’s family doesn’t die. Rather, they choose to continue their lives without him even after he returns to civilization, which adds a layer of tragedy that further heightens Rafael’s loss and his disgust for the evils in people’s hearts. But, hey, having that wouldn’t be as funny!

Clocking in at over 14 minutes, this episode is one of the longest YGOTAS episodes to date. LittleKuriboh previewed the first four minutes of this episode during his Patreon live stream earlier this month and explained that he was worried about the episode’s length.

“I often look at an abridged video and say if I can cut something out, I will. If the video doesn’t suffer for it, I will cut it out,” he said. “This one I was a lot more lenient on because this is a pivotal moment in the series. […] A lot of things that happen in this episode are important so I didn’t want to just brush over a lot of it. So, I tried my best to really give it space to breathe and let it do its thing. I feel like as a part of the story, it’s good. I just don’t know if as an abridged episode if it’s good, you know?”

Oh, LK, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Ah, Marik’s Evil Council of Doom. When we last saw the gang back in 2012, Marik’s group was starting to crumble. Bakura had decided to leave Marik and join up with Dartz, much to the horror of fangirls worldwide. Meanwhile, Marik’s fellow evil colleagues began doubting his abilities as a leader. How will this mess resolve itself? After more than four years, LittleKuriboh will be providing an answer in “Counseling Evil,” a five-part series highlighting Marik’s quest to become more evil in an effort to win back Bakura. Part 1 is available now.

Followers of LittleKuriboh may remember that he originally intended for this new series to be titled #ProjectButtTouch. However, during his Patreon live stream earlier today where he played an unfinished version of this video, LK explained why he decided to change it. This series contains “a lot of not-subtle references” to the current U.S. election and specifically to Donald Trump’s campaign, LK said, and it was written back when LK knew Trump only as someone who spoke about making America great again. He continued:

“A lot of the events that transpired in the past two or three weeks — they’re upsetting for a lot of people. I don’t want to evoke those and I feel like a title like ‘Project Butt Touch’ — which does have a reason for being the title and it will become part of the story as it gets toward the end — honestly it is appropriate for the story but I don’t think it’s appropriate for the series as a title because I feel like it will provoke a lot of people. It’ll provoke discussion about that and that’s the last thing I want to do. I don’t want people to discuss it and I don’t want people thinking about it when they’re watching one of my videos. I make videos to make people laugh.

“I don’t want people to start using that kind of language and I don’t want people to make it a joke at the end of the day. And I don’t want people to think that I think it’s a joke, because it’s not; it’s a serious issue. And that was not what my intention was when I conceived of this. And unfortunately, it just happens to have coincided with that. So, the new title for the Evil Council finale is going to be ‘Counseling Evil.’

“You will see Project Butt Touch feature in the series, but it won’t have anything to do with the title or [this video].”

LK also explained that the series is ultimately about the reunion of Marik and Bakura. Part 2 will feature Bakura “very heavily,” part 3 will feature Marik, part 4 will feature Bakura, and part 5 will have both characters reuniting and finishing the story of the Evil Council.

Don’t miss this special Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged project years in the making! Be sure to follow LittleKuriboh’s YouTube channel, CardGamesFTW, to stay on top of new videos. You can also find a list of LK’s old Evil Council videos and more on my YGOTAS streams and downloads page.

[YGO: TAS] Episode 70: A Convenient Truth, Mai VS Mai

A Convenient Truth -- YGOTAS episode 70

Hooray! It’s a new episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged! How very convenient; I love season 4. Check out episode 70, “A Convenient Truth,” on YouTube and TFS. Yugi and the gang are now one step closer to discovering the origin of the monster attacks around the world. Hopefully, all of the pieces of this mystery will fall effortlessly into place for them. It would be awful if something bad were to happen to complicate things — like someone losing his soul over this mess!

This episode features a new voice for Rebecca performed by Erika Harlacher (Kurapika in the 2011 Hunter x Hunter, Elizabeth Liones in Seven Deadly Sins). Erika replaces ColonelCheru, who played Rebecca in episode 65. LittleKuriboh loved ColonelCheru for the role and was very sad to recast her, he said on Facebook, though he didn’t offer a reason behind it.

Mai VS Mai

Last week, LK released “Mai VS Mai,” an exceptionally serious and in-depth critical analysis of the Mai Valentine from the beginning of his series and the current Mai Valentine. This video was made possible by his Patreon pledgers, who voted on this topic for LK to explore.

LK recorded this video’s dialogue during his July Patreon live stream and offered his viewers some insight into its writing and production. Mai is LK’s least favorite character to play because of his inability to voice a woman, he said. And he didn’t want to have the old Mai appear in the video alone, or even just talking to the new Mai, because he thought this wouldn’t be funny and would devolve into a bunch of accusations of the old Mai being a sexist joke. While it is important to highlight the breasts joke in discussing Mai’s evolution, it’s also important not to shove that down people’s throats or make people feel bad about themselves, LK explained.

During the live stream, LK noticed that the title of the video, “Mai VS Mai,” sounds like a play on “Spy vs. Spy,” but this was completely unintentional. But if anyone asks, yes, he meant to do that!

Convention Updates: Meta Con

LittleKuriboh has added one new stop to his anime convention schedule! He will be guesting at Meta Con in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from September 2 through 5 alongside other voice actors like Greg Ayres and John Swasey. LK last attended this event in 2012.

YGOTAS Turns 10

You may have noticed that Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series turned 10 years old last month on July 14, but the date came and went without any fanfare from LittleKuriboh. This was intentional, explained LK in one of his We’re Still Here vlogs. LK had been tremendously dreading the occasion and felt like he had disappointed his viewers. I’m sure many of his friends and fans would quickly disagree with that though.

“I will celebrate the 10 year anniversary of YGOTAS some time later this year,” he tweeted three weeks later. “I’m sorry I wasn’t feeling it for the actual anniversary.”
