Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V, Scale 19: ‘Their Whereabouts!’February 27, 2017 at 5:00 pm | Posted in ARC-V, Yu-Gi-Oh! | 1 Comment
The iconic Akira motorcycle slide?
Two weeks have passed since Yuya Sakaki and Reiji Akaba dueled. Shingo Sawatari and Shun Kurosaki are rambling through the streets of Maiami looking for the president when they run into Yuzu, who is searching for Yuya. It seems that both characters vanished after they dueled.
Yuzu tells the duo that she spotted Akaba in a sports car heading toward the airport. Sawatari casually reveals that he heard some kids in the south district yapping about a “manhole monster.” Yuzu is confused.
Sawatari and Kurosaki head to Leo Corporation. The company building is closed, but Kurosaki uses his Raidraptor – Napalm Dragonius to blow a hole through the front entrance while Sawatari gawks at the brazen act of vandalism. The duo uses the company’s computer to try to locate Akaba.
Meanwhile, Yuzu arrives in the south district of the city. Sure enough, there’s a manhole in the area that sometimes makes strange noises, starts rattling, then blows out a torrent of water.
Yuzu heads underground and discovers that the rumpus is being caused by none other than Yuya Sakaki, who has been hiding from his enemies. Yuya has been speeding through the tunnels of the sewers on a Duel Runner, training to become faster and stronger. One day, he says, his enemies may challenge him to a battle on a Duel Runner and he wants to be ready for it. Yuzu wonders why Yugo doesn’t just take his place when such a time comes.
Why indeed? In Yuya’s mind, Yugo, Yuto, and Yuri talk among themselves. Yugo has been feeling his connection with Yuya weakening recently.
“Sometimes, when I’m with him, my mind blanks out,” says Yugo. “And it’s happening more often.”
“The Adam Factor, which has begun to awaken inside Yuya, may be causing it,” Yuri hypothesizes. “It could be interfering with our presence.”
“Whatever the reason, we may not be with Yuya much longer so I want to teach him everything I can,” Yugo says downheartedly.
Elsewhere, Sora Shiunin and Ren are also searching for Yuya Sakaki and Reiji Akaba. In front of them are dozens of rectangular monitors. Shiunin spots the mass of Odd-Eyes’ solid vision on one of the screens. It’s located at a particle accelerator. Ren is shocked by what he sees and immediately heads out.
In another room, Eve is lying down, trying to rest. Her breathing is heavy. A long-haired bespectacled man is monitoring her vitals.
“Even with all the time we had, I haven’t been able to identify your illness or the true nature of that card,” he tells her.
“Isaac, you’re a brilliant scientist,” Eve replies. “Don’t worry about me. This is the price of pulverizing history.” Issac looks downward dejectedly.
“No matter how many lives Ren, Sora, and I may live, we’re simply trying to complete the memories of our first lives,” Eve continues.
“When G.O.D.’s power awakens, all will be complete,” Isaac assures her. “You, Adam, and the rest of us will be eternal together!”
There are no duels in this chapter. It feels nice to have a little bit of a breather since the previous duel was so intense.
Back in chapter 14, Reiji was driving a fancy old motorcycle. Now, he has been spotted by Yuzu in a fancy old sports car.
And just like the motorcycle, this car looks really detailed and is probably based on a real car. Do chime in if you know the model. It seems like the illustrator, Naohito Miyoshi, really loves adding in these realistic vehicles despite the story’s futuristic setting.
Shun Kurosaki. This guy. He literally firebombs Leo Corporation just because he wants to find an opponent to satiate his thirst for dueling.
It’s sad to hear that Yuya’s counterparts might not be around for much longer. What will happen if their bond with Yuya is broken? Will they just become trapped in his mind, unable to communicate with him? Nooo! What a somber and lonely existence.
So there’s a character named Eve, and now there’s one named Isaac and another yet-to-be-revealed individual named Adam. And they’re messing around with G.O.D.’s power. Hmm… What other biblical references will there be next?
I like Eve’s revelation that she, Ren, and Sora have lived multiple previous lives. It adds a new layer of significance to Ren’s Reincarnation Synchro strategy. It could also mean that Sora’s sister, Miu, might not be someone who exists in Sora’s present, but is instead someone from his previous life.
Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V already has a time travel element, and now reincarnation is coming into play. So complex — but so cool!
