Anime Expo 2015 kicks off today in Los Angeles, California! Among the many Japanese guests attending is Masanori Miyake, the director of planning and development at A-1 Pictures, an anime production house and subsidiary of Aniplex. Though he only just joined A-1 Pictures in May 2015, Miyake is a veteran of the industry, having held planning and production roles with Asatsu-DK (ADK) and Nihon Ad Systems (NAS) since 2002. Yu-Gi-Oh! anime viewers might recognize ADK and NAS as members of the consortium of owners and licensors of the Yu-Gi-Oh! property.

Miyake has worked on over 20 anime titles, including Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, Eyeshield 21, Dragonaut: The Resonance, Natsume’s Book of Friends, and three Pretty Cure series. Furthermore, Miyake worked with 4Kids Entertainment and 4K Media (Konami) to establish a global development strategy for Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V.

Masanori Miyake will join A-1 Pictures president Tomonori Ochikoshi and producer Yuichi Fukushima for a panel this Saturday at 5:15 pm in LP3. The focus will probably be on Gate and Wagnaria!!3, the two new anime series by A-1 premiering this weekend. Still, if you’ve ever wanted to know about what goes into planning and producing Yu-Gi-Oh! from the Japanese companies’ perspective, here’s your chance to ask Miyake!
