Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL fans Down Under may have hit a little snag if they want to complete their season 1 DVD collections. Australian media distributor Roadshow Entertainment has confirmed that it will not be continuing its Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL single volume DVD releases and has instead opted to re-release the entire first season as one large set in June later this year.
“We have reassessed our release strategy for [the] Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal series on DVD and are looking at releasing the complete first series of Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal on DVD as a collection in June 2015,” explained a Roadshow representative by email.
The eighth and final volume of season 1 pictured in the mock-up above, “The Dragon Awakes,” was to contain episodes 43 through 49 and was initially slated for a December 2014 release. It was subsequently delayed to early January 2015 and then to earlier this month before being pulled again mere days before its street date.
Australia was the first country to receive the English-language dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL on home video in June 2013. The release came a good two months before 4K Media and Cinedigm formally announced that every Yu-Gi-Oh! series would get a home video release in the United States, and well over a year before Cinedigm’s first ZEXAL DVD would be released.
This news brings my coverage of Roadshow Entertainment’s Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL DVDs to a close. If you live in Australia or another English-speaking region 4 country, please continue to support Roadshow as it releases new ZEXAL videos. Unfortunately, Roadshow doesn’t do any significant marketing for its ZEXAL titles, so I encourage you to hit up your favorite online or brick-and-mortar video store to stay updated and ask them to carry Roadshow’s future videos.
