When you acquire all five seasons of the new Yu-Gi-Oh! DVDs from Cinedigm, you can summon the unstoppable Exodia!

The entire Classic Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series is getting a brand-new DVD release! Cinedigm will be releasing all five seasons through its Flatiron Film Company label, beginning with season 1 on September 10. Cinedigm, coincidentally, is the same company that distributed 300 prints of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time movie to theaters across the U.S. in 2011.

Cinedigm’s season 1 DVD release contains episodes 1 through 49 and retails for $44.95. The set includes two clam shell cases, each with three discs, and a box to hold both volumes. A mock-up of the season 1 box and DVD cover images is pictured below. All five seasons are Region 1 DVDs for the U.S. and Canada and include the original English-dubbed broadcast (edited) version of the episodes. A rep on the official Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Page on Facebook says to “stay tuned” for more announcements regarding releases in other countries and languages.

The street dates for seasons 2 through 5 are still to be determined. Cinedigm’s season 4 DVDs will include all 40 episodes from that season, making it the first-ever English-language DVD release to contain episodes 169 through 184.

If you’re at San Diego Comic Con, head over to booth #1437 where Cinedigm is taking pre-orders in person for the first season! For everyone else, check your favorite online retailer for pre-order information.

If you just can’t wait for these new DVDs and want to jump back into the show right now, don’t forget that you can watch all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! series anytime for free on Hulu and Toonzaki!

  1. I Wonder how many episodes per disc if there are 6 discs in season 1?

  2. In FUNimation’s six-disc season 1 set, the first four discs held 10 episodes each and the fifth disc held nine episodes. The sixth disc held only around 1 GB of extras (it was a terrible waste of a DVD!). I hope Cinedigm does a smarter job authoring the DVDs and makes better use of the disc space.

In my opinion, six DVDs are not enough for 49 episodes. That averages out to a little more than eight episodes per disc and the video quality is quite likely going to suffer because of it. I think it would be better to have no more than six episodes per disc, a layout which falls in line with what we see from other American anime DVD producers.

  3. Will there be a DVD re-release of all 5 seasons in Japan after the DVD release in U.S. and other countries?

  4. Not that I’ve heard. A re-release in Japan would be amazing! At this point, trying to get a complete collection of all of the singles produced before Duel Box 1 is exceptionally difficult. Even the Duel Boxes are quite rare.

  5. Wait a minute, is Cinedigm working with New Video Group or is this their own release? And if it’s their own, does this mean we’ll have two companies distributing Yu-Gi-Oh!?

  6. And why are there five boxes inside a box that says “The Official First Season”. Is Season One really that big?

  7. Cinedigm and New Video Group are the same company. Cinedigm acquired New Video in April 2012, including New Video’s home video production capabilities, so Cinedigm can put out its own DVDs. Yu-Gi-Oh! is coming from Cinedigm’s Flatiron Film Company line.

The picture of Exodia actually comes from the spines of each of the individual season box sets. So the box on the far right with Blue-Eyes on the cover and Exodia’s left fingers on the spine is the season 1 box. To the left of that box is the season 2 box, which shows Exodia’s left thumb on the spine, and so on. It’s not one big box.

  8. It’s a shame there won’t be a release for an uncut dub. If there was, I’d get into it.

  9. Definitely, though there were only ever nine of those episodes released. You know what would be a nice touch? If they re-released those episodes as “extras” on these new DVDs. *cough* Something to think about, 4K Media! *cough*

  10. This is awesome! I’ll finally be able to have every episode to the original Yugioh. And who knows maybe this will set the wheels in motion to get GX and 5DS finished and on dvds.

  11. Is their any possibility that Yu-gi-oh DM can be blu ray or made into a quailty of 720p? Cause when u look at the newer season of DM(mainily 4 and 5) it seems like blu ray is possible.

  12. Unfortunately, a Yu-Gi-Oh! DM Blu-ray release won’t be happening any time soon. The short answer for why not is because the show is very, very old from a filmmaking perspective and the source it’s stored on doesn’t allow for an HD release. There are also licensing hurdles that need to be overcome.

If you have some free time, check out this post and the comments that follow it for a more in-depth discussion about the obstacles of releasing Blu-rays.

And if you are interested, Cinedigm will be releasing Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s and Zexal on Blu-ray.

  13. what the heck took so long to get this out? After i had purchased the first part of Waking of the Dragons, Yu gi Oh just disappear off the map until now. To me the Yu Gi oh got all better from that point as an anime then just lost it there after.

  14. I just bought the season 1 box set, it’s great! Finally, the rest of the Waking of the Dragons arc will be on DVD. Hope this company will also release GX, 5D’s and ZeXal DVD box sets too…

  15. Yes, they’re coming. :)

  16. will there be a box set to put the 5 individual box sets in as shown in the above picture with the spines of the seasons forming Exodia????

  17. There will not be one gigantic box that holds the five individual boxes. Why would you need that anyway?

  18. I have been waiting for quite a while for this. I am so stoked. I am in Australia so will be purchasing these online I have noticed on eBay there are 3 seasons already available since their realease in September so does this mean it will be a season a month release?

  19. So far, we’ve been seeing one season released roughly every two months: season 1 on September 10, season 2 on November 5, and season 3 on January 14, 2014. Barring any unforeseen changes, season 4 is currently scheduled for March 25 and season 5 for May 13. Stay tuned for confirmation and more details from Cinedigm about those final two seasons.

  20. No uncut!? Fuck you 4 kids!!!!!!!!!

  21. You no this yugioh boxset they are going to release is it just yugioh or will it have gx,5ds and zexal as well

  22. Cause it said all 5 seasons but there is 5 seasons of the standed yugioh

  23. This post is about Yu-Gi-Oh! Classic — the original 224-episode series. All five seasons have been released since this post was written. I’ve also written about the other four seasons:
    Season 2
    Season 3
    Season 4
    Season 5 and Capsule Monsters
You might also be interested in the recently announced Megaset, which contains all five seasons in one massive collectible package. Release dates for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, 5D’s, and ZEXAL haven’t yet been announced.

  24. Can you please keep me update about the yugioh 5ds please

  25. Can you please let me no the release date of yugioh 5ds when it gets one please

  26. It’s probably easier if you subscribe to this website’s feed. Then you’ll be automatically alerted whenever I publish a new post.

  27. on the yu-gi-oh fan page on fb they said gx s1 is due out oct 14.

  28. Yup, I know. Thanks! :)

  29. the battle music from 4 kid entertainment was good
and the voice actors for voice actors yami-yugi & seto kaiba was good
    everything else was bad

  30. Will these yugioh season 1-5 dvds be released in region 2 for australia at any point?? Really want these

  31. I’m afraid I haven’t heard of these being released in Australia yet. By the way, Australia is region 4, not region 2. If you actually want region 2 DVDs, Manga Entertainment UK has released seasons 1 and 2 so far.
