Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Saban Brands introduced the world to Vortexx, its upcoming Saturday morning children’s programming block on The CW. Vortexx promises to light up the network with action, adventure, and comedy programming, including Yu-Gi-Oh! and Power Rangers. Like its predecessors TheCW4Kids and Toonzai, Vortexx will include both a TV broadcast and Internet component.

Vortexx premieres on Saturday, August 25 and will run from 7 am to 12 noon.

In the meantime, head over to Facebook and “Like” Vortexx’s official fan page, then follow it on Twitter! And keep your eye on the official website at MyVortexx.com. If all goes well, that could be where we’ll find our beloved Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes streaming in the near future.

Is that a Power Rangers-esque lightning bolt I see in the Vortexx logo? Oh Saban, you’re so clever. :)

  1. Did they say anything about other 4Kids shows, like Dragon Ball Z Kai and Sonic X? Or do we not know yet?

  2. Other than Yu-Gi-Oh! and Power Rangers, no other shows are named in the press release. However, 4Kids’ deal with Saban included Cubix, Dragon Ball Z Kai, and Sonic X, so Saban will certainly be looking to do something with those.

  3. Do you guys have extreme hope that the Ratings will higher than Toonzai’s, to prove that saturday mornings aren’t dead as they think?

  4. Who are the “they” that you’re referring to? I don’t follow the ratings for kids’ programming and I don’t know much about them. I do know that the market for kids’ programming isn’t anywhere as strong as it was when Saban last dominated it during the mid to late 90s. I don’t expect to see today’s market approach those levels ever again. The advent of the Internet, broadband connections, and video streaming has forever changed the ways everyone consumes entertainment.

In fact, part of the reason 4Kids struggled financially with its block on The CW is because of how badly the children’s programming market has tanked since the days 4Kids first signed on to work with the network. Back then, the market was a lot stronger, so 4Kids could pay the large amount of money that The CW was able to leverage. These days, kids’ programming isn’t pulling in the same large wads of cash any more, but The CW’s agreement with 4Kids didn’t account for such changes in the market, so 4Kids still had to pay The CW at “yesterday’s rates.” You can be sure that The CW will be getting a smaller chunk of change from Saban than it did from 4Kids.

  5. I hope this new block has a Kids’WB vibe to it! because complete anime isn’t working AT ALL!

  6. My Sun Tristan Wrote Its Vortexx Day!!!!!!

Content edits are mandated by the network censors, not a show’s producers, so you’d have to ask The CW if you want to learn more about why certain things can’t be shown on children’s programming. Chaotic is not in Vortexx’s current schedule, but you can still find the episodes on Hulu for now.
