Visits from Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! voice actors to this side of the planet are quite uncommon. That’s why it’s really exciting that this weekend, Junko Takeuchi, the voice of Mokuba Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, will be a spotlight guest at New York Anime Festival, a part of the sixth annual New York Comic Con! What’s that, you say? Her name sounds awfully familiar? That’s because Takeuchi is probably best known to anime fans for playing Naruto Uzumaki, the titular orange-clad ninja of Naruto and Naruto Shippuden! (I eagerly await a Mokuba/Naruto joke to one day come from Little Kuriboh.)

At her first-ever North American anime convention appearance, Takeuchi will be holding autograph signings on Friday, along with a Naruto Shippuden panel with the crew from Viz Media. Don’t be afraid to ask her questions about Mokuba though! Then, on Saturday, Takeuchi will be at the New York School of Visual Arts Theatre celebrating the U.S. premiere of the newest Naruto film — Naruto Shippuden The Movie 3D: Bonds Beyond Time!

Takeuchi is the ninth Japanese voice actor who played a major or quasi-major role in the two original Yu-Gi-Oh! series to venture to this side of the planet.

NYAF/NYCC will again be held this year at the Javits Center in Manhattan. The event kicks off tomorrow, October 13 for select attendees and the press, then runs through Sunday, October 16. Look for Toonzaki‘s Chris Beaumont of Cubeecraft fame while you’re there, too!
