Over the past day, a 4Kids employee has been lighting up reddit by bravely responding to comments from fans, haters, and other enquiring minds. bacondevil, who has worked in the music department at 4Kids’ production arm since 2002, is graciously inviting folks on the social news website to AMA (ask me anything!). So far, he’s discussed everything from his likes and dislikes about 4Kids, its management, and its shows, to the company’s interactions with network censors, to the various aspects of his uncommon job as a music editor.
While many of the questions asked have commonsensical answers or have already been answered elsewhere, he nevertheless provides a few fun bits of new information. With regard to Yu-Gi-Oh!, bacondevil has confirmed that 4Kids is indeed “subbing the GX episodes that were not produced” — episodes 156 through 180 of season 4. Hooray! We’ve known since August 2009 that 4Kids has wanted to subtitle Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX, but up until now, the last we had heard about that project was in November 2010. This is definitely great news for fans of GX and Yu-Gi-Oh! subs.
bacondevil’s best replies, however, are his elegantly poetic opinion about the post-4Kids version of One Piece, as well as one of his explanations for why rice balls are too often left on the cutting room floor. Ha. It seems like the 4Kids employees that have spoken out all have a surprisingly peculiar sense of humor.
So check out that post for more talk about editing, music, Yu-Gi-Oh!, TMNT, and other 4Kids shows. Oh, and One Piece. Lots and lots about One Piece. People just won’t let that die. As you can imagine, a lot of comments are posted just for the sake of antagonizing bacondevil and others. You probably want to avoid combing through the trash. Read bacondevil’s replies right from his profile.
The questions and answers have slowed in the last couple of hours, but don’t hesitate to post a comment if you have one! Maybe you’ll get a response. You can also find bacondevil on Twitter.
Even if you’ve checked out other interviews and Q&A articles with 4Kids employees, it’s still worth your time to see what bacondevil has to say. He doesn’t hold a C-level position and he’s not speaking on behalf of the company, so his perspectives and attitudes are probably different than what you may have seen before.
