Japanese episodes of Sonic X on Hulu

Before he disappeared, one of the last messages left by sympathetic 4Kids employee Nameless Cubicle Office Guy dealt with the removal of the subtitled Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters episodes from YouTube. In delivering that now infamous piece of news, the NCOG also left us with a happier message: 4Kids’ experiments in providing the original, uncut Japanese versions of their shows was far from finished. Subtitled episodes of Sonic X, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX would be forthcoming.

This morning, the first part of that promise came true! Uncut, subtitled episodes of Sonic X have made it onto Hulu, the wildly popular American video-streaming service! Hooray! Twenty-six episodes (the first season) of the show are currently available.

4Kids has wisely chosen to use Hulu’s closed captioning system to display the subtitles (“soft subs”). If they don’t appear automatically for you, click the “CC” button on the lower right of the player and select “English.”

Now that 4Kids has made good on part of the NCOG’s promise, will we be seeing the official Japanese versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters GX on YouTube very soon? Check out their videos and make some noise! Show 4Kids that there is a demand for the original, subtitled versions of their anime and that fans want to see more!

Update (June 8, 2010): 4Kids has begun adding the subbed episodes to their YouTube channel as well! Currently, the first three episodes are available for viewing. What a nice surprise!
