Anzu and Yuugi checking out CDs in a music store in episode 53

In part 1, I wrote about Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series’ use of Blip.tv for hosting its iTunes feed and as another official source for streaming the videos. Let’s now look at what’s available for direct download from Blip.tv.

The YGO: TAS videos uploaded to Blip.tv can be downloaded in four formats:

  • the original video source, which is a WMV/AVI file for almost all of the videos,
  • Apple-friendly M4V, which is the exact same file that you get when you subscribe to the iTunes feed,
  • Flash Video FLV, which is what gets streamed on Blip.tv’s video player,
  • and MP3 (audio only).

I’m already liking Blip.tv a lot more than Revver, which only provided MOVs for download.

I’ve decided to add links for downloading the WMV/AVI and M4V videos to my YGO: TAS downloads index, breathing new life into that dying page. I’ve left out links for the Flash Videos, since there really isn’t any reason to save those if they can simply be streamed right from their player, as well as links for the MP3s, since YGO: TAS is best enjoyed with both the visual and auditory systems simultaneously stimulated. :)

You may recall that the WMV/AVI files were originally made available only via BitTorrent. I had previously collected all of those videos and uploaded them onto MegaUpload for anyone who didn’t want to use the torrents. Now that they are all on Blip.tv for direct download, my MegaUpload links are obsolete and have been replaced with the Blip.tv links. The only videos currently not available on Blip.tv that are still obtainable from the torrents are “Without Yugi” (Kroze has mentioned that there have been some problems encoding and converting that file) and “The Final Abridged Video Ever.” My MegaUpload links for both of those videos will remain for now.

In short, check out the updated YGO: TAS downloads index! I had to change the layout of the page using tables, just like I did to my streaming YGO: TAS index, so if anything looks funny or broken, please let me know!

And Merry Slavemas, everybody! Remember, a slave is for life — not just for Slavemas!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged on iTunes and Blip.tv, Part 1: Feeds and Streams

YGOTAS iTunes podcast cover

At the end of his thank-you video, Little Kuriboh briefly mentioned that the Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series episodes are now back on iTunes. As later brought up on Facebook, a surge of downloads just a few hours after those videos were introduced put YGO: TAS at top of the iTunes podcast rankings. Wow! So, what’s new with the YGO: TAS podcast?

The old, defunct iTunes feed got its content from the YGO: TAS Revver account. Videos uploaded to Revver were converted into iTunes-friendly MOV files, whose links I collected on my YGO: TAS downloads page. As you’ve probably noticed, the Revver account hasn’t been updated for quite some time now.

The new iTunes feed pulls its videos from YGO: TAS’ recently-created Blip.tv account at: http://yu-gi-ohabridged.blip.tv/

It’s worth noting that you do not need iTunes to access the YGO: TAS podcast feed, a useful fact if iTunes isn’t available in your country, or if you want to use some other podcasting software (“podcatcher”). You can bypass iTunes and subscribe to the feed directly from Blip.tv using: http://yu-gi-ohabridged.blip.tv/rss/itunes/

So what’s Blip.tv? Like Revver, Blip.tv is a video hosting, streaming, and distribution service. Unlike Revver, along with YouTube and other such websites, Blip.tv only allows web shows to be uploaded, making it the perfect home for YGO: TAS and its podcast feed.

Blip.tv now gives us another website where YGO: TAS videos are officially streamed. As such, I’ve added links to all 62 of the currently available videos to my YGO: TAS streaming videos index, and will continue to update that page as new videos get uploaded.

With CardGamesFTW and the new iTunes feed doing so well, I think it’s a safe bet that YouTube and Blip.tv will continue to house Little Kuriboh’s newest videos, while the Revver and Dailymotion accounts will keep on collecting dust.

Astute viewers who watch the videos on Blip.tv will notice that there are links to directly download those videos right on their individual pages. Gasp! Can it be?! Does this mean my YGO: TAS downloads index will finally be getting an update? Of course it does. Stay tuned for part 2.

[YGO: TAS] Yami – My Antidrug

Screenshot from Little Kuriboh's Yami - My Antidrug

Earlier today, Little Kuriboh uploaded “Yami – My Antidrug,” a parody of a 2003 public service announcement (PSA) featuring Yami that encouraged kids not to use marijuana. LK’s version is an almost word-for-word replicate of the original PSA — with an obligatory YGO: TAS-themed twist of course!

LK’s PSA was created for a online charity event that the That Guy with the Glasses crew ran on December 5. The fundraiser benefited the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana and raised over $31,000! A recording of the live event is available: part 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

LK’s video aired at around 51:30 in part 3. The TGWTG team didn’t seem to get it, haha, though Doug agreed that card games are a better addiction than drugs, especially if the game is the Geek Fight! CCG.

The original PSA, called “Honor: My Anti-Drug,” was created through a partnership between the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and 4Kids Entertainment in the summer of 2003 and could be found on yugioh.com and freevibe.com.

This isn’t the first time that the Yu-Gi-Oh! anti-drug PSA has served as fodder for LK. Back in episode 6, Yami made a proud and memorable declaration: “Actually, I do smoke marijuana! It’s gooood stuff.” I wonder how many people caught the reference back then.

Day five of Watch Yu-Gi-Oh! Online Week is here! Today’s new index page has streaming videos of Little Kuriboh’s Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series! Links to all 45 episodes (thus far) of YGO: TAS, along with a select number of LK’s other video creations, are included. Whenever possible, I’ve linked to the videos uploaded onto YouTube, Revver, or Dailymotion by LK himself or by one of the YGO: TAS staff.

I must say, an index for streaming YGO: TAS videos on this site has long been overdue. The last time LK provided downloads of his high-quality videos was nearly eight months ago. As a result, my index for YGO: TAS downloads has been barren of new episodes.

It’s okay though, because there doesn’t seem to be much of a demand for downloadable YGO: TAS videos anyway. The YGO: TAS torrents are low on leechers. Requests for the YGO: TAS videos’ return to iTunes (which actually just provides the same videos uploaded onto Revver) are almost nonexistent. Everyone, myself included, seems happy streaming the videos. Hooray for instant gratification! Besides, download-lovers can always just rip the videos from YouTube, but I never saw much of a point in doing that.

I’m trying a new layout on my index for streaming YGO: TAS episodes that uses tables. Unfortunately, WordPress.com doesn’t seem to like tables very much, so if the index doesn’t look like the picture below, please let me know!

This is what the streaming YGO: TAS episodes index should look like

Little Kuriboh as a cartoon in LK Update - Web Awards, Christmas, etc

Missed any YGO Abridged-related announcements recently? Fret not! Cartoon Little Kuriboh (a.k.a. The Big Giant Head) has returned to fill you in and provide some new tidbits of information as well. Here’s a brief rundown:

  • Vote for CardGamesFTW as the Funniest YouTube Channel in Mashable’s Open Web Awards! Yes, this competition is still going on! The winners will be announced on December 15.
  • The official YGO: TAS fansite is being updated, so don’t worry if it’s down!
  • YGO: TAS now has a Facebook page! Though it’s not LK’s personal Facebook profile, it nevertheless has lots of messages on there and cool convention photos of the man himself! As of this writing, it has nearly 2,500 fans. Join today!
  • YGO: TAS is also on Twitter! LK does post there himself pretty often, along with some YGO: TAS staff.
  • There won’t be a big YGO: TAS Christmas Special this year, though LK might find the time to make something smaller! *crosses fingers*
  • Episode 46 will be debuting at MAGFest 8! Will it be the final episode?!

Cool-looking room, LK! Take care of that cold!

[YGO: TAS] Episode 45 – Requiem For A Nyeh

Wielding lightsabers, Melvin and Bakura prepare to duel in YGOTAS episode 45

The origin of Melvin is at last revealed in episode 45 of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series, released yesterday on YouTube! Clocking in at just a second under 11 minutes, it beats out episode 42 as Little Kuriboh’s longest YGO: TAS episode to date!

In episode 45, “Requiem For A Nyeh,” Ishizu brings to light the events that led Marik become who he is today: his first trip outside, his viewing of the “Kill Your Family Show,” his first yaoi comic… The episode also features a fantastically twisted spoof of Harry Chapin’s number-one hit “Cat’s in the Cradle.”

Towards the end of the episode, Melvin’s true allegiance is revealed, and he and Bakura prepare to face-off using ancient Egyptian lightsabers (Melvin’s appears to rise out of his crotch) to determine the fate of the show! Could the next episode be the last?! LK reminds us that it’ll be premiering at MAGFest 8. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

YGOTAS on Facebook

Little Kuriboh’s Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series now has an official Facebook page! Check it out and become one of their fans! Right now, they’re looking for convention photos featuring LK and the YGO: TAS staff, so if you have any, send them in!

The official YGO: TAS page was unveiled yesterday evening via Twitter and looks like it was created by helixD, one of the moderators on the YuGiOhtheAbridgedSeries.com forums. The official page joins the dozens of other unofficial YGO: TAS pages, groups, and characters profiles already on Facebook. XD

This, by the way, is YGO: TAS’ Facebook page, not Little Kuriboh’s. LK has previously stated that he doesn’t have a personal Facebook page. Beware of impersonators!

Hot on the heels of the recently released trailer for the Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th anniversary movie comes… a trailer for the Yu-Gi-Oh! 10th anniversary abridged movie by Little Kuriboh! The trailer co-stars ShadyVox (of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Abridged) and Semisoma01 (of Gurren Lagann: The Satire, Bleach Abridged, and .hack// Abridged), both of whom do a fantastic job! Now this is a threesome I can get behind… in 3D no less!

Screenshot from Little Kuriboh's promo for MAGFest 8

Earlier today, Little Kuriboh released a promo for MAGFest 8 — The Music and Gaming Festival — which he and many other gaming-related personalities and musicians will be attending early next year. What’s really cool about this short video is that it co-stars a professional voice actor: Jon St. John, who’s been the voice for the Duke Nukem character for over a decade! LK says he jumped at the chance to work with St. John after the voice actor offered to lend his voice for any MAGFest promos. Awesome!

LK first announced his upcoming appearance at MAGFest in early November. MAGFest 8 will be held in Alexandria, Virginia from January 1 to 4, 2010.

Elsewhere on the Internets, a YGO: TAS character recently made yet another cameo appearance in a video by a team member from That Guy with the Glasses. This time it’s Yami, who utters a now-famous line in a reference-filled episode of Linkara’s Atop the Fourth Wall! Once again I ask: is this canon?! ;)

[YGO: TAS] YGOTAS Sails Away

Tristan, Tea, Yugi, and Joey riding a ship, the wind blowing through their hair in episode 3/YGOTAS Sails Away

In a tribute that is both touching and humorous, the cast of Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series sings “Come Sail Away,” the hit 1977 ballad by Styx. Originally, only Yami was supposed to sing, says Little Kuriboh, but the whole thing kind of spiraled out of control. Believe me, LK, I don’t think anyone’s complaining!

LK has also provided an MP3 download of the song.

In other news, LK has alerted us via Twitter that Odion and Melvin make a cameo appearance in the latest episode of Familiar Faces! Is this canon?! Familiar Faces is a web series by CR of YGO: TAS-partner That Guy with the Glasses.
